Today's W.T on GB not being inspired is having ZERO impact on most J.W's
by Isambard Crater inthe congregation i attend had it's watchtower study on thursday night because of l.d.c work this week-end, and another congregation i have some not very spiritual friends in had their watchtower study on wednesday.
from what i have delicately prised out of people, the congregations loved the watchtower study this week, saying it was so encouraging and all the usual stuff, with no-one seeming to realise the g.b.
said they're not inspired, so the spirit int he past has moved them to teach wrong things, and all the other ideas excellently summed up on reddit.. today's watchtower will wash over the heads of most j.w's like it never even happened, the all remaining as loyal as ever, and it makes me so, so sad..

very sad as this story is----it does bear out what ive said before about jw deaths through blood refusals in the UK...they get in the newspapers. so fortunately there are very few in the UK most years.

What was it like being a JW in the 1960's and 1970's
by UnshackleTheChains inthis is obviously a question for the older generation.
i'm really curious what it was like to be a witness in the 60's and 70's?.
was the society as strict as it is today?.

i grew up in the cult in the 60's---in Birmingham UK. dipped at 14. left school at 15..pioneering at 16. lots of parties with no parental interference--especially after circuit assemblies on sunday nights. really great fun . lots of drunkeness and smoking ! it wasnt a d/f offence back then.
like most of my jw mates--i just wanted a regular girlfriend. startied courting at 17---a born in with very strict jw parents. most of the guys i knew were having sex in one form or another. a few got d/f if the girl got pregnant.
married at 20.---1968. soon stopped pioneering.
by the time i was 23--i just knew 1975 was utter twaddle---and my wife was now carrying our first of 3...so i had to think long and hard about the blood issue. but it didnt take too long. i threw away all the jehovah myth--and all the shackles that went with it.
i resigned in 1971.. and it made no difference to most of the bros--i attended memorials and the occassional meeting to keep the wife happy. i was never shunned. till '81--then all things changed. ive never looked back or been to a meeting since.

It will be even better when the public talk speaker gazes out at all the empty rows.

going back to the late 60's. my born in wife and i married in 68..me 20..she 19. a year later i was best man at friends wedding--they were fairly new to the cult.
we went on to have 3 kids over the next 10 years--they other couple waited.
my wife and i divorced in 81--those friends went on to have 2 kids ( ive never met them )
a lifetime goes by.
my ex wife now shuns our son --who was d/f a few years ago. she hasnt seen his 2 year old boy.
those friends ? their daughter left the cult--or was d/f--i dont know which. her father has shunned her for a few years now--she left the UK for Australia.
my son and their daughter are facebook friends.
the watchtower society--wrecking families for nearly 150 years.

i think most of my teenage mates were long gone by the time i left. those who stay in do so if they have a devout fanatical mother.

We had a very similar thread about this a few weeks ago.
The figure of 8000 was a mistake. In the article quoted above it mentions a few hundred..Which is more likely.
